SCII
About a week left for the release of Starcraft II. Sadly the store I ordered from decided not to have a midnight-opening for it. I guess I'll just have to drop by the following day and get it.
I've only been to one midnight-opening before, and that was when the Wrath of the Lich King expansion for World of Warcraft was released. And the feeling you get from waiting outside in a line for a game you've waited so long for... it's indescribable. So it's sad they won't have a similar event this time for SCII.
Oh well, this is just a quick post, so that I've posted something anyway. ^_^
Beta test: MoH
So I've been playing some Medal of Honor beta this past week, not as much I had expected to play before I got it though.
My first impression of the game was bad, and even though it got a bit better after getting somewhat hang of it, it just doesn't do it.
Lets compare it to Modern Warfare 2 shall we. First off, something I found pretty irritating when I ran around in MoH was that when I got killed, I had no idea whatsoever who did it, and most of the times it felt like a really weird death. MW2 doesn't have that issue since they have their "kill cams", you can see the last few seconds of the viewpoint from the guy who killed you. This is very helpful in order to learn how to better avoid getting killed next time, and it makes the death easier to accept when you realize "ahh, he had a perfect view from that position, no wonder he got me" instead of "wtf just happened???!??!?".
Something else I noticed from the game was that when it's been developed, it has been developed with consoles in mind. It's more of a console game than a PC game from the way they've developed it. The menus especially show this, when you notice that it's actually easier to navigate by using your keyboard instead of your mouse.
A third thing I disliked was that when you got in the game, you could choose from three classes. That's it. Soilder, Special Ops and Sniper.
You can't change your gear at all in the beginning, result being a bad one. Something I really liked in MW2 was that you could name and create your own custom classes, and equip them with different combinations. Making everyone a bit different from each other.
Sure MW2 has it's drawbacks, but compared to MoH, it's unbeatable.
Before the beta I considered pre-ordering the game.
After the beta I'll most likely never buy the game. It's just not worth it. If you're after a good online shooter, go for Modern Warfare 2. It takes less resources from your computer, looks better, and even though it's older than MoH, it's way better.
Predator
There's going to be an exclusive "preview" (calling it a preview might be the wrong word, since they'll be showing the entire movie, not just a clip of it) of the new Predator movie tomorrow, and since they'll be giving a lot of awesome stuff there, I though I should go. And go I shall.
I guess I'm not that excited about the movie, but I haven't gone to the movies in a while so I thought why not :) And who doesn't love free stuff?
Oh yeah, something worth mentioning might be that I've started playing World of Warcraft a bit again. Though I've created a completely new account, on a completely new server, on a new continent.
I started a trial account on the American servers, so that I could play with a friend from there. Been pretty great ^_^
I hope I can get into a normal playing routine, and get started with some school stuff as well.
Until next time..
Medal of Honor
I found my way into the Medal of Honor beta, but my first impression wasn't a good one. I had to change a couple of settings before being able to play somewhat "good".
But still.. I don't know, it didn't fell into my liking. Not yet anyway.
Could be due to my computer, but the gameplay wasn't smooth enough so that it can be enjoyable. Which means: It will require a pretty decent computer when it's released. Comparing what I think about it to Modern Warfare 2, MW2 wins easily. But we'll see. I'll give it a few more shots and see what it's like.
Tuesday
There are people literally EVERYWHERE. Had to walk around for a while before I found a "decent" spot to sit down at. And even here it's a bit hard to concentrate. Oh well, just have to wait until they disappear. ^_^
Since Starcraft II is being released in a few months, I've got a bit tempted to install the old Starcraft (that I never played too much of), and start going through the campaign. It may have really old graphics, but it's quite similar to the new version. So it's good practice to learn how the units work.
I installed it a few days ago, and started playing it yesterday. It was quite fun actually. Learned a lot of new stuff quickly.
Another thing I did yesterday was play Starcraft II. My cousin was here as well so we sat down and had a lot of fun together. We tried to "study" the gameplay of the better players and try to adapt in order to survive better. And it worked!
As you all know, my first match was: Failure.
My second match was yesterday, this time with my cousin sitting next to me. And I did lose that match as well, but we studied the replay of the match and learned a couple of new tricks. So match number three....: We won!
I'm not really sure why we won. I'm pretty sure the opponent would have won if he hadn't given up. He was the first one to attack, and nearly destroyed my base before I had an army built up. But luckily I had built a couple of defense turrets so I could hold them back.
After that I focused 100% on defense because I was positive that I would lose if it would continue like that. But I wanted to give as much resistance as possible. I have no doubt that he would have won if he continued to press against me since my resources were running desperately low.
But even so, I won. And I've come to two possible reasons for that victory.
1. He didn't have time to play any longer, and had to quit the match before he could beat me.
2. Or he overestimated my strength, and didn't think he could win.
Anyhow, I'm eager to play more today when I get home. ^_^
Now, back to school work.
Until next time..
On a Roll
Things are going pretty good. I'm updating my blog regularly, I've gone to school every day this week and it feels pretty good.
For some reason I'm not even that tired today, even though I went to sleep three hours later than I did yesterday (almost 1 am! Shame on me ;))
Now the only thing that remains is actually studying as well. ^^
I'm actually quite proud that I went to school today despite of something that happened yesterday. I was checking my email and found out a video-game store here in sweden called "Game", were giving out beta-codes to everyone who pre-ordered Starcraft II, the upcoming PC-game from Blizzard Entertainment.
I had already pre-ordered my copy from an other store, and for a second I was thinking if I should change that order and get it from Game instead. But then when I continued going through my mail I noticed I already recieved a beta code from the store I pre-ordered it from in the beginning.
So yeah, sorry for that long story before getting to the actuall point: Even though I knew that I had my beta-code and was very eager to try it out, I still woke up 8am today and went to school. ^_^
Gaming will just have to wait until I get home.
Anyway, time for me to do some actual studying. Wish me luck!
Until next time..
Update!
I just realized that I really should update, just so that I won't get into the "I'll do it tomorrow" behavior again.
I've been to school three days this week. Monday to Wednesday. Sadly I wasn't feeling that good during the past night, so that I couldn't sleep that well. So I didn't have the strength to go to school. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. I did have a couple of things planned that I was going to do while in school. Like writing to my math teacher and continue writing on my short story. As well as update my blog as a way of taking a small break from studies in the middle.
But things don't always go as planned I guess.
I watched a movie yesterday. Called New Moon. Most people know it as the second movie in the Twilight series.
And before you start saying that I shouldn't watch those movies (I know you're out there, Twilight-haters ;)), let me just say that I'm far from being a fan of the series. I don't take movies that seriously, well maybe sometimes. :P And I was a bit against watching New Moon, just because of the reason that Dakota Fanning is in it. I know I shouldn't let something like that bother me, haha. But lets just say that I'm not a big fan of hers ;) She's a decent actress, but there's something about her.. that I don't like. Oh well
One of the reasons that I WANTED to see this movie defeated the reason I had for not seeing it. That reason was Alice Cullen, played by Ashley Greene. Haha, I just love that character. Goofy, cute and most importantly (Haha, yeah I do mean "most importantly". I'll ignore my morals for one time and be a jackass :P)... And most importantly... absolutely stunning! I don't really know why.. But those yellow eyes, short black hair... Haha, I'll just stop there I think.
But seriously, I think I may have a thing for short hair like hers :P
Because of that reason, I'll most likely watch Eclipse in the theaters, haha. I just can't help it.
Some of you may or may not know, but "once upon a time" I used to be one of many who played the immensely popular online video game called World of Warcraft. Now, I haven't played it in over one year and four months.. In the end of 2008 I just decided that I'll take a small break. But that break never ended, and I have considered leaving the game forever. But I just don't know...
I have so many great memories from the time I played that game. All of those memories happened because of the social aspect of the game. All those memories happened because I met some really awesome people. And I really miss that. I know I'll never get that same feeling back from that game, but I do wish I could travel back in time and experience it all over again.
The reasons to that I stopped playing were many. One of them were my depression. As some of you may not know, the depression didn't just take away my will to study. It took away my will to play games. Play games is something that always has been important to me. And when I suddenly felt incapable of doing that I felt empty.. and even more depressed.
Now I'm getting better, and I'm considered starting to play that game once more. I doubt I'll have many of my friends left in the game, and the same feeling I got from playing has vanished because of the game becoming.. less exciting. They've made it more and more easy, and the easier it goes, the less interesting it is to play. An example: I remember the good old days when you really had to fight in order to gather up the money in order to buy that precious mount when you reached level 40. Now, you'll get it 95% cheaper, and already at level 20... The challenge is gone.
It's like pouring water in a glass of coke. Sure, the more water you put in the glass of coke, the more you get. But the taste.. it isn't as strong because it's been watered out.
I realize this post is getting a bit too long. What I'm just saying is that I'm considering starting playing again. Not because of my old memories or the social aspect. But because of the story, the lore. I love Blizzard's work. And I love the universe of Warcraft. I even read the books. What I miss from not playing the game, is the story. That's the only reason I wish to return.
Until next time..
